A. Max Evans, age 85, 489 State Rte 93, Orangeville, died at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Bloomsburg Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday. He was in failing health since March 11th.
Born on June 20, 1923 in Stillwater, he was a son of the late Roy E. and Beulah F. (Force) Evans. He had lived at his present home since 1964, and formerly lived in Orangeville.
Max was employed as a welder at the Girton Manufacturing Company, Millville for 33 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during World War II.
Max was a member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church.
He was a well known square dance caller for 41 years until 1994, and in that time served with three different bands: the former Ritter's Orchestra, Bill Long's Band and the Masters Family Band.
Max enjoyed gardening while he was still able.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, the former Elizabeth Viola "Betty" Kline on October 26, 2008; by a daughter: Barbara J. Tedesco on July 24, 2003 and two brothers: E. Donald Evans, Sr. on January 14, 2001 and Ernest Evans on February 14, 2006.
He is survived by two daughters: Beverly J. Fisher, Bloomsburg and Bonnie J., wife of John Eschbach, Danville; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and a sister: E. Jean Karnes, Lightstreet.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Darwin C. Goshorn, officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville. Friends may call on Monday night from 6-8 p.m.
