Alice M. Longenberger

Alice M. Longenberger, age 89, 52 Worman Street, Bloomsburg (Espy) died at 2:37 a. m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Balanced Care At Bloomsburg, Scott Township where she was a patient since October, 2007.

She was born on April 1, 1921 in Catawissa, a daughter of the late George and Maude (Leiby) Reese and resided in Espy for over 50 years. She was a graduate of the former Catawissa High School in 1939.

Alice was employed at the former US Radium Corp., plant in Almedia for 35 years, retiring in 1983. She later assisted her husband as custodians of their church, Wesley United Methodist Church for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Longenberger on November 10, 2007, after 68 years of marriage; by a brother, Robert Reese and a sister, Pearl Glass.

Surviving are three daughters: Rosanne Dent, Bloomsburg; Sally (Westerfield) Longenberger, at home; Jan, wife of Edward Ashcroft, Long Pond; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in Hillside Cemetery, Church Street, Catawissa, with her pastor, Rev. Jay E. Jones, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeast PA, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
