Allen C. Miknich, age 73, 78 N. Iron St., Bloomsburg, died at 1:11 p. m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for three days. He was in failing health for three years.
Born in Berwick on July 11, 1942, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Wozniak) Miknich. He attended Berwick High School where he played on the championship football team in 1960. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1962.
Allen was last employed by Hillcrest Laminating, Jerseytown, retiring in December, 2015. Earlier he was employed by the American Car & Foundry Co., Inc., Milton and also in Berwick; as a waterproofer in New Jersey; and at Milco, Industries, Bloomsburg.
He was a member and Past Governor of Columbia Valley Lodge 623, Loyal Order of Moose, Bloomsburg. He also belonged to the Slovak Club and the Russian Club in Berwick.
Earlier in his life he was an active firefighter belonging to the former Winona Fire Co., Bloomsburg. He also was a social member of the Continental Fire Co.; Washington “Washies” Fire Co.; and East End Fire Co., all of Danville.
Allen loved guiding river floats in Alaska with his brother and nephews. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, and watching wrestling; but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Miknich.
Allen is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Long, with whom he celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary on February 3, 2016; two daughters: Debra Schnee, Bloomsburg and Denise, wife of Michael Karnes, Danville; a son, Robert Miknich, Bloomsburg; nine grandchildren: Zachary Schnee, Nathan Schnee, David Schnee, Briana Zaginaylo, Morgan Karnes, Michaela Karnes; Allison Miknich, Austin Miknich, Blade Miknich; two great-grandsons: Ryland Schnee and Jase Schnee; a brother, Charles M. Miknich, and his wife Betty Ann, Anchorage, Alaska; a brother-in-law, Larry Long, and his wife Rose, Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Eileen M. Chapman, United Methodist minister officiating. The family will received friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Eos Therapeutic Riding Center, 288 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg or the Animal Resource Center, 301-A Boone Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
