ALMA D. "AMY" MERRELL
Alma D. "Amy" Merrell, age 79, 110 Jerseytown Road, Danville, died at 5:23 p. m. Monday, May 21, 2012 in the emergency room of the Geisinger Medical Center, where she was taken after being stricken at her home. Her death followed a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Born in Cooper Township, Clearfield County on May 15, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Elva E. (Smith) Folmar, She resided in the Danville for more than 59 years. She attended the Cooper High School in Clearfield County.
Amy assisted her husband in the operation of the family business, Merrell's Nursery, which was located at their home.
She was an active member of the Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, where she served on the hospitality committee. She attended Curves in Danville, was a part of the Dan Jo Wheelers for over 20 years and participated in a ladies bowling league.
Amy loved plants, flowers, working in her yard and was a meticulous housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Mark Merrell; a daughter, Sandra Jean Merrell; a grandson, Nicholas Hamilton; a brother, Maynard Folmar and a sister, Grace Conway.
Surviving are her husband, Creveling A. "Crev" Merrell, with whom she would have celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary on June 28, 2012; a son, Daniel A. Merrell, and his wife Patricia, Riverside; three daughters: Sharon, wife of Charles F. Hamilton, Alburtis; Lorie M., wife of Michael Cero, Turbotville; Barbara J., wife of Wesley S. Szoke, Danville; 11 grandchildren: Jeremy Merrell, Brett Merrell, Rebecca Matthews, Melissa Vidoni, Amanda Cero, Christopher Cero, Zechariah Szoke, Chelsea Hamilton, Elizabeth Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Jennifer Fiscus; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are six siblings: Karl Folmar, and his wife Lois, State College; Betty, wife of Robert Hutchings, Beech Creek; Ruth Gurbol, Clearfield; Ethel, wife of Harold Fisher, Gahanna, Ohio; Bonnie, wife of Marsh Wisor, Mineral Springs; Clark Folmar, and his wife Nell, Curwensville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom St., Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. at the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville or at the Church, Friday after 10 a. m.
