Andrew G. Barnes, Sr. age 81, 2391 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, (Espy), died at 4:14 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital where he was a patient for three days.
Born in Catawissa on December 14, 1933, he was a son of the late Alfred I. and Martha J. (Fisher) Barnes. He resided in Bloomsburg and Espy most of his lifetime.
Andy was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., for over 40 years, retiring in 1995.
He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and assisted at church functions and activities. He also was a life member of the Espy Fire Company.
Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing and walking his dog, Candy Cane.
He served with the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.
Andy was preceded in death by a sister, Betty E. Eveland and three brothers': Carvel Barnes, John Barnes and Morris T. "Shorty" Barnes.
Surviving are his wife, the former Geneva A. Levan, with whom he observed his 58th wedding anniversary on February 23, 2015; A son, Andrew G. Baranes, Jr., and his wife Jill H., Cabot, Ark., a daughter, Pamela S. Barnes, at home, a grandson, Christopher S. Barnes and his wife Katie, Bloomsburg; a sister, Laura E. Moore, Buckhorn; and two brothers: William A. Barnes and his wife Sandra and David M. Barnes and his wife Deborah, all of Bloomsburg. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11: a.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Church parlor.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. Matthew Lutheran Church for the Church food bank.
