Anson C. Woodring
Anson C. Woodring, age 86, 4159 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died at 5:45 p. m. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the Emmanuel Center For Nursing, Danville, where he resided since March.
Born in Hazleton on January 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Howard F. and Kathryn (Rarich) Woodring. He moved to Bloomsburg at an early age and attended the former Ben Franklin Elementary School on the Bloomsburg State College Campus before graduating from Bloomsburg High School with the class of 1945.
Anson was last employed by Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, as the secretary, working there from 1975 until retiring in 1992. Earlier he was employed by the former U. S. Radium Corp. for 22 years at their former plant in Almedia.
He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, where he served on the council and also taught Sunday school for many years. He assisted in the annual Easter egg making project and delivery. He also was a Bible scholar.
Anson was an active Mason, belonging to Washington Lodge 265, F & AM, Bloomsburg for over 50 years and was a Past Worshipful Master. He also belonged to Caldwell Consistory; Berwick-Bloomsburg Royal Arch Chapter 218; Orient Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; and was awarded the honorary 33rd degree at Boston in 1975.
He also belonged to Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Anson traveled with Professor George Keller and his circus in his early life. He enjoyed doing card tricks and was very talented at reciting and memorizing.
An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed following Central Columbia High School sports; golfing; bowling; playing cards; and hunting both small game and deer.
For many years he was employed as a ticket taker at the annual Bloomsburg Fair and also served as a fair auditor.
Anson served with the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
Serviving are his wife, the former Audrey Keiser, with whom he celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary on October 23, 2012; a daughter, Kim Woodring, and her husband Joe Pacholski, Collegeville; a son, Joseph Woodring, and his wife Sara Garcia, West Lake Village, Calif.; four grandchildren: Afton, Joey, Ben and Kristina; a sister, Irene Diefenbacher, Orangeville; a brother, M. Wayne Woodring, and his wife Nancy, Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at 11 a. m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy) with his pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10 - 11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent in his name to St. John Lutheran Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
