Arlene S. Howell, age 90, 219 Dutch Hill Road, Bloomsburg, went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at 3:30 p. m. at her home.
Born in Shamokin on September 18, 1926, a daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Jane (Siddle) Steinhart. She was the youngest of nine children, having three sisters and five brothers.
Arlene was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Carmel Township High School where she was the class valedictorian. She went on to graduate from the former Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing where she also was her class valedictorian
She was a member of the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church where she was active in many activities. She attended the Christian Women's Club for many years and guided several Bible studies.
She and her late husband, Donald, traveled extensively. Especially precious to her were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was her pride and joy. Her favorite hobbies were studying the Bible and watching football. She could be found each morning doing devotions and praying for family and friends. An avid football fan, she faithfully watched all levels of football and she knew players from various teams, especially if they were Christians. Her favorite team was Penn State.
Arlene brought joy and happiness to all the lives she touched. She was the pillar of her family and was most happy when her beloved family would gather. She had a wonderful listening ear and led many people to our Lord. She was a true friend and was counted on for everything. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by her family and friends. We know God has a special place in heaven so she may watch over us until we join her. We love you Mom and always will.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Howell on August 2, 1998; her daughter Suzanne M. Howell on December 18, 2015; and by eight siblings.
Arlene is survived by a daughter, Nancy A., wife of Brian E. Leighow; two sons: D. Randy Howell, and his wife Tina and Christopher R. Howell, and his wife Tina, all of Bloomsburg; six grandchildren: Angie Halterman; Eric Leighow; Gabriela Howell; Adrianna Howell; Alexus Howell; Jack Howell; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, 604 Dutch Hill Road, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. George A. Zerbe, officiating. Interment will be made in the Church Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
Viewing will be Thursday from 6-8 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg and on Friday from 10-11 a. m. at the Church.
Arlene loved flowers, however if you prefer to remember her with a contribution to the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church or to the Geisinger Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg, that will likewise be appreciated.
