ARTHUR C. RIEGEL
Arthur C. Riegel, age 87, 233 South Street, Catawissa, died at his home at 8:30 p. m. Monday, May 3, 2010 after being seriously ill since March.
Born in Danville on April 29, 1923, he was a son of the late Alfred L. and Dorothy (Hower) Riegel. His entire lifetime was spent in Catawissa.
Arthur was a 1941 graduate of the former Catawissa High School and served in the US Army during World War II. He attained the rank of Corporal and served in the South Pacific. Following his military service he attended and graduated from the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College and later received a masters degree in guidance from Bucknell University, Lewisburg.
He was a chemistry and physics teacher at Catawissa High School and it's sucessor Southern Columbia High School before becoming a guidance counselor at the school, retiring on June 7, 1985 after more than 30 years.
Arthur was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Catawissa, where he was an usher and a member of the Seekers Sunday School class. He was also a mason for over 50 years as a member of the former Catawissa Lodge 349, F & A. M. and currently a member of Elysburg Lodge 349, F & AM. He also belonged to Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg.
His hobby was woodworking and he made many items for his family members and friends.
A brother, James Riegel preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn M. Kline, with whom he would have celebtrated his 54th wedding anniversary on June 9th; two daughters: Claire Elizabeth Campbell, Bloomsburg; Barbara L., wife of Robert Brown, Danville; two grandchildren: Kristen, wife of Adam Lorson, South Williamsport; Sean E. Campbell, State College; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Lorson; a great-grandson, Garrett Lorson, who is expected to be born in the near future; and a brother, Graydon Riegel, and his wife Peggy, Catawissa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 228 South Street, Catawissa, with Pastor Calvin J. Rich officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.Friends may call at the Church on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church (for the organ fund), 228 South Street, Catawissa, PA 17820.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
