Arthur W. Stackhouse, 92, 464 West Third St., Bloomsburg, died at 11:25 a.m. at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

Born on July 18, 1917 in Millville, he was a son of the late Meyer B. and Laura J. (Warner) Stackhouse. He had resided in the Bloomsburg area for most of his life.

Arthur was a supervisor at the former Magee Carpet Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked part-time for the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds Maintenance Department until 1999.

Arthur served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a member of the V.F.W. Ft. McClure Post #804.

Arthur was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed raising beagles, and raising homing pigeons which he raced and gathered many trophies for over the years. In his younger days, he loved to play baseball for Benton.

He was preceded in death by two wives: the former Catherine E. (Trump) on June 2, 1972 and the former Elsie Mae (Gardner) on July 16, 1994; a brother, Grant M. Stackhouse on Nov. 5, 1999; two sisters: Harriet L. Boslego on May 3, 1984 and Julia Chango; a step-son, Bruno J. Lucas on Dec. 18. 1998 and a step-daughter, Elaine G. Evans on Feb. 7, 1998.

Surviving is his wife, the former Myrtle A. Pursel, with whom he would have celebrated his thirteenth wedding anniversary on March 24, 2010; a daughter, Kathy A. Kitchen, Berwick; two grandchildren: Damion H. Kitchen and Tobias W. Kitchen, wife Gail, both of Berwick; a great-grandson, Tobias W. Kitchen, Berwick; five step-sons: Fred B. Utt, Bloomsburg; Howard R. Utt, Bloomsburg; Cletus J. Utt, Bloomsburg; Richard W. Utt, wife Angela, Dallas, Texas and William E. Utt, wife Bobbi, Washingtonville; several step-grandchildren and a sister, Rachel M. Remley, Berwick.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with. Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of the Hendrickson-Mooresburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge with the combined military services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1-2 p.m.
