Barbara J. Landesman, age 67, 475 Ridge Street, Bloomsburg (Almedia) died at 12:40 p. m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Select Specialty Hospital at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was hospitalized much of the time since April due to complications following surgery.
Born in Norwich, New York on Dec. 14, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Bert L. and Dorothy G. (Canter) Wilcox. She resided in Almedia for the past eight years.
Barbara was a graduate of New Hartford (NY) High School and Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in New York City where she received her R. N. degree. She received her B. S. degree in hospital infection control from the University of Minnesota in 1976.
Her 45 year nursing career involved mostly emergency room, ICU and infection control specialties at hospitals in New York; Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif.; Minneapolis and St. Paul Minn,; and in New Jersey. Since moving to Pennsylvania in 1990, she was employed at the Berwick Hospital Center and Bloomsburg Hospital. She retired from her position as employee health and hospital infection control nurse at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital in 2012.
Barbara was a member of the Association of Practioners of Infection Control (APIC) and an avid bird watcher and gardener. She occasionally took part in organized bird count activities. When her sons were growing up, she was active in the Boy Scouts of America and served as an assistant troop leader.
Surviving are three sons: Seth Landesman, Santa Clarita, Calif.; Joshua Landesman, and his fianceeâ Lynn Armstrong, Richmond, Va.; Ethan Landesman, Stuttgart, Germany; a brother, Bruce E. Wilcox, and his wife Victoria, Bloomsburg; her friend and former husband, Jerry Landesman, Santa Clarita, Calif.; a niece, Meredith Wilcox-Levine, West Warwick, R. I.; a nephew, Christopher Wilcox, Swoyersville; an aunt and several cousins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
