Barbara K. (DeSantis) White

With deep sadness, the White-DeSantis families announce the passing of Barbara “Barb” White, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world to enter her Heavenly reward on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Barb was born on November 29, 1949, at Geisinger Memorial Hospital in Danville, the youngest of five children to Alfred D. DeSantis and Elizabeth Mae (Oberdorf) DeSantis. She grew up in Danville and, on September 2, 1967, married Robert F. White. Together, they moved to Buckhorn, where they raised their two sons, Jason and Joshua, and embraced a full, active life in the countryside.

Barb developed a deep love for the outdoors and animals, especially horses. Her time spent working at the former Steel Ridge Horse Farm in Buckhorn sparked a passion for riding, particularly on her beloved horse, Taquina. She enjoyed many hours riding the scenic hills with her dear friend Linda.

Barb worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at The Bloomsburg Hospital before retiring. She was also a proud member of the Bloomsburg P.E.O. Chapter C.I., a women’s philanthropic organization. She enjoyed playing board games with friends. We will fondly smile when reminiscing about the countless hours spent around the card table playing double-deck pinochle, whether at home or at the P.E.O. pinochle table at Perkins restaurant.

Barb also had a passion for quilting, traveling to classes at Hoover’s, and creating beautiful quilts, many of which she generously donated to others. A favorite memory was her summer trips at Lake Champlain, where she enjoyed bass fishing with family, and her saltwater, fishing excursions on Sanibel Island, Florida.

A woman of strong faith, Barb’s belief in God was her foundation, especially as she faced the challenges of radiating treatments and chemotherapy with unwavering strength, grace, and dignity. Her faith was a light that carried her through her journey.

Barb leaves behind her devoted husband of 57 years, Robert F. White; her two sons, Jason (Jennifer) White, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Joshua White, of Westfield, Vermont; her grandsons, Dylan and Dakota White; and her sisters, Bettyann Huber and Carol Lewis of Danville, and Gloria Young, of Bloomsburg. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents; her in-laws, Frank and Norma (Lynn) White; her brother, Alfred DeSantis, Jr., in 2014, and his wife, Beatrice in 2016; as well as her brothers-in-law, Dennis Lewis and Keith A. Young, both in 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at 11a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg with Pastor Rebecca Cuddeback of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 -11 a. m.
