Bernadette B. Shive, age 83, 115 Clifton Drive, Bloomsburg (Sherwood Village) died at 1:27 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was admitted Wednesday. She had been a guest at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville, since March 2008.
Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on Dec. 7, 1927, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Begani) Bolcar. She was a 1944 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and resided in Bloomsburg since Jan. 1953.
Bernie assisted her husband Robert at the former Moyer Brothers Pharmacy which they owned for many years.
She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. She also volunteered at Red Cross bloodmobiles and as a member of the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary.
Bernie was an avid golfer and a former member of the Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Shive on Aug. 25, 2008; by four brothers and a sister.
Surviving are a son, Robert G. Shive, Jr., and his wife Susan, St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter, Suzanne S. Hock, at home; five grandchildren: Adam Hock; Sara, wife of Brooks Saunders; Bridget, wife of Nathan Narsh; Ethan Shive, and his wife Mary; and Colin Shive; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecelia Daniels, Phillipsburg, N.J.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by her pastor, Rev. Paul R. Fisher. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. There will be no calling hours.
