Bernadette F. Yoder
Bernadette F. Yoder, age 83, Franklin Place, Bloomsburg, died at 6:29 a. m. Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient since Friday.
Born on January 22, 1929 in Fair Haven, Rutland County, Vermont, she was a daughter of the late John Harold and Mary (Lawlor) Hayes. She resided in Bloomsburg for six years and formerly lived in Prescott, Arizona; Lubbock, Texas; and Clinton, New York.
Bernadette was a 1947 graduate of Bellows Falls High School, Bellows Falls, Vermont.
She was employed by the former Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Lubbock, Texas before retiring about 1994.
Bernadette was a staunch Catholic wherever she lived. In Bloomsburg she was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and sang in the choir. She also belonged to the Communication Workers of America.
Her family and friends were an important part of her life and she had a phenominal memory. She was especially proud of her Irish heritage.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary C., wife of Paul D. Hayes, Maplewood, N.J.; two sons: John M. Yoder, and his wife Sotey, Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Matthew P. Yoder, and his wife Karen, Leesburg, Va., six grandchildren; and four siblings: Mary C. Christensen, Pittsburgh; John H. Hayes, Jr., and his wife Barbara, Davidsonville, Md.; Edward J. Hayes, and his wife Heather, LaRonda, Calif.; Anne M. Baarck, Bloomsburg and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas L. Hayes and a sister, Kathleen Kingston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by her pastor, Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Church, Fri. 10:30 to 11 a. m.
