Betty Jayne "BJ" Catherman

Betty Jayne "BJ" Catherman, age 88, of Danville and formerly of Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg, died at 11:23 a. m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Shamokin on July 23, 1928, she was a daughter of the late  Russell and Lottie (Hockenbrock) McConnell.  She was a 1946 graduate of Danville High School. She resided in Danville for the past two years and previously lived in Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg for many years.

BJ was employed in the bookstore at Bloomsburg University for many years before retiring.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church Bloomsburg; the Bloomsburg Red Hat Society and the Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern Star. In her earlier years, she was an avid golfer, playing in several leagues.

BJ was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Catherman on Sept. 27, 2007 and by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Fisher on June 16, 2007.

Surviving is her son, David E. Catherman, and his wife Kathy, Valparaiso, Ind., four grandchildren: Alison M., wife William R. Miller; Joshua Thomas Turner, and his wife Rebecca; Kristin Catherman; Laura Catherman, and her husband Michael Tonelli; three great grandchildren; and two sisters: Althea Wertman, Danville and Jacque, wife of  Jay Wetzel, Conyngham.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p. m. in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9 St. Luke Way, Bloomsburg, with the  Rev. John E. Fenton officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing at the Church on Monday from 1-2 p. m. Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern will conduct memorial services at 12:45 p.m.
