Betty J. Griffith, age 89, 2360 Third St., Bloomsburg, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Berwick Hospital Center. She had been in failing health for two years.
Born in Plymouth, Luzerne County on July 7, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Mark and Martha (Davis) Thomas. A 1938 graduate of the former Plymouth High School, she had resided in Scott Township since 1951.
Betty was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy; and a life member of the Dallas Chapter of O.E.S. She was a home maker who enjoyed gardening and playing bingo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John D. âJackâ Griffith, on Dec. 28, 2006; and by three brothers: Kenneth Thomas, George Thomas and Willard Thomas.
Surviving is a daughter, Dianne, wife of Walter Davis, Berwick; five grandchildren: Yvonne Rickmers, Nescopeck; Marsha Davis, Lafayette, Ind.; Scott Bardo, Gibsonton, Fla.; Diane Deutsch, Bloomsburg and Scarlett Miller, Nescopeck; 13 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Susan O. Rogustki officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
