Bruce Francis Reigel

Bruce F. Reigel, age 87, formerly of West First St., Bloomsburg, died at 11:10 a. m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient for four days. He resided at The Gardens At Orangeville for the past two and a half years.

Born in Philadelphia on January 1, 1930, he was a son of the late Bruce F. and Anna E. (Derrick) Reigel. He was a 1947 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and resided in Bloomsburg since 1951.

Bruce was employed by the Bloomsburg Area School District as a custodian for 37 years,  retiring in 1995. His last ten years were spent at the W.W. Evans Elementary School. Earlier he was employed by the former David Thomas Plumbing in Danville.  

He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg,.

Bruce was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his children to love the outdoors. Since he moved to the nursing home, he enjoyed taking part in the activities, as well as visiting with the other residents and staff.  He was an ardent fan of the former Vicksburg Quartet.

He served with the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Dorothy “Dot” (Patterson) Reigel on February 15, 2017 and by a son, Harry Dean Reigel, on July 1, 1981.

Surviving are four children: Boyd P. Reigel, and his wife Karen B., Benton; Annet L. Reigel, and her husband Bruce Hashinger, Bear, Del.; Ruth E. Reigel, Danville; Nancy J., wife of Brian E. Fry, Catawissa; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, William G. Reigel, Mobile, Ala.; and a sister, Jean, wife of  Denis Haydon, Akron, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Audrey M. Brosious officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call on Saturday from 10-11 a. m.

The family will provide flowers. The family asks that friends remember Bruce by doing a random act of kindness.
