Carl E. Diltz, age 94, 139 Rotary St., Orangeville (Stony Brook Circle) died at 11:40 p. m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a patient for two days, while  under the care of Celtic Hospice. His death followed a brief illness.

Born in Sugarloaf Township, on February 17, 1920,  he was a son of the late Arden K. and Lu B. (Ash) Diltz. He resided in Stony Brook Circle since August, 2011 and previously resided in Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg for 25 years and in Johnstown, New York for many years before that.

Carl was a 1938 graduate of Benton High School;  received his B. S. degree from the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1943 and his M.S. degree from Columbia University, New York City, in 1947.

He began his teaching career at Columbia High School in Columbia, Lancaster County, where he taught business education. After receiving his Master's  Degree, he was an economics professor at various universities, including Penn State, Wesley College,  and at Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y. for 15 years. His final professional position was as business administrator for the Greater Johnstown School District, Johnstown, N.Y. where he was responsible for the financial and business affairs. He retired in 1984 after having worked for the school district for over 20 years.

Carl enjoyed reading and had a great appreciation for history and had an active hobby of genealogy research. Most of all, he loved being with his family.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marushia Monique, with whom he celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary on June 21, 2013. They were married in the Chapel at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. Also surviving are  a daughter, Lou Ann, wife of Richard E. Maye, Benton; two sons: Bruce A. Diltz, and his wife Wendy, Westfield, Mass and Greg S. Diltz, Philadelphia; seven grandchildren: Michael Maye, and his wife Christina; Nicole, wife of Bes Luga; Richard Maye, and his wife Christina; Melissa, wife of Richard Watson; Natalie Diltz; Karly Diltz; Jackson Diltz; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by two brothers: Irvin B. Diltz in 1978 and Thomas R. Diltz in 2004.

Private funeral services will be held on Monday in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with the Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, officiating. Interment will follow in the Benton Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice at Celtic Care, 601 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, Pa 18704.
