Carl T. Womer, age 90, 102 E. Wood Street, Centralia, died at 7:55 p. m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest for five days. He was in failing health for several months.

Born in Aristes on August 15, 1923, he was a son of the late John and Katie (Fetterman) Womer. He was a 1941 grauate of the former Conyngham High School and also attended the Williamsport Technical School where he majored in the machine shop program. Carl resided in Centralia for much of his life.

Carl was employed by Rockwell Industries in Reading as a machinist for over 25 years, retiring in 1987.

His family was the most important part of his life and he also loved the outdoors, especially trees and flowers.

Carl served with the US Army during World War II, participating in the Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns as a member of the 274th Infantry of the 70th Division. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during his service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Bergan, on Nov. 18, 2001; by two brothers: Fred Womer and Russell Womer; and a sister, Mabel Peifer.

Carl is survived by a daughter, Kathi Womer, at home; three sons: William "Bill" Womer, and his wife Dorothy, Dauphin; John Womer, and his wife Alice, Harrisburg; Carl F. Womer, and his wife Cindy, Bloomsburg; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.  He was the last of his immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Girardville, with a family friend, Rev. Neil Sullivan of St. Catherine's Parish, Harrisburg officiating. Interment in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Centralia, with military honors by the Wilburton American Legion Post. Viewing will at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
