Carol G. Achy, age 75, 170 Nottingham Road, Bloomsburg (Sherwood Village) died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at her home after an illness of 18 months.
Born in West Nanticoke on Dec. 15, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Earl Gregory and Mary Elizabeth Wolfe Ent. She resided in the Bloomsburg area since 1951. She attended the Nanticoke schools before graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1954.
Early in her life, she was employed as a secretary by several local attorneys, including the late J. Atlee Cryder and the late Reginald Hemmingway.
Carol was an active member of the Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia, where she taught the Good News Club for 12 years; served as the special events coordinator; helped to create the Meet Your Greeter program and also the church newsletter, "Shiloh Housecall".
Her hobbies included playing the piano, reading, feeding birds, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty M. Kleinsorge on Nov. 3, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Achy, with whom she celebrated her 55th anniversary on June 12, 2010; three daughters: Colleen M., wife of Barry Gross, Catawissa; Marjorie Sue, wife of Bruce Linker, Waldorf, Md.; Caroline L., wife of Tim Creasy, Bloomsburg (Espy); three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four half brothers and sisters in Utah and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on tuesday at 11 a.m. in Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St., Bloomsburg (Almedia), with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.
