Catherine Jean Sitler, age 86, 3 Avon Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Trevorton on May 14, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Rachel (Blanksby) Strohecker. Jean was a 1945 graduate of Trevorton High School and a 1948 graduate of the former Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing. She had resided in Bloomsburg since 1950.

Jean worked as a Registered Nurse at Geisinger Medical Center from 1948 until her retirement in 1975. During that time, she also did some private duty nursing.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg; Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville and volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drives. Jean was an avid golfer and bridge player; and attended many Penn State football games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair E. Sitler on November 23, 2011; a daughter, Sharon Lynn Sitler on April 3, 1975; a brother, Richard “Jack” Strohecker and a sister, Betty Ford.

Surviving is a sister, Dorothy, wife of Lavon Swank, Shamokin (Overlook), and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Tuesday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Creveling Cemetery, Old Berwick Road, Almedia, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Gary W. Weaver officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
