CHARLES E. DREISBACH
Charles E. "Chuck" Dreisbach, age 90, 1015 E. Fifth Street, Bloomsburg, died at 4 a. m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest since June 10, 2010.
Born on January 5, 1920 in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Mamie (Snyder) Dreisbach. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1950 and previously lived in Catawissa. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Hegins High School.
Chuck was employed by the former Bell Telephone Co., of Pennsylvania for 36 years retiring in 1982. At the time of his retirement he was a facilities co-ordinator.
He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg and the Susquehanna Valley Association of Retired Men, of which he was a officer for 25 years. He also was actively involved with the PA P.E.T.S. for over 25 years.
Chuck was active as a volunteer for the Childrens Museum, Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society; as vice-president of the Bloomsburg High School Band Boosters and delivering meals on wheels.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, including 18 months in the European War Theater as a combat infantry radio operator. He was awarded the Combat Infantry badge with two bronze stars; Presidential Unit Citation for distinguished service; and a Russian medal for bravery. He participated in three battles: Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was awarded three battle stars. He also was a prisoner of war.
Chuck was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion and Ft. McClure Post 804, V.F.W.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen E. Buckley, with whom he celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary on April 19, 2010; two sons: John D. Dreisbach, and his wife Esther, Bloomsburg and William C. Dreisbach, and his wife Susan, Medford, N.J.; a daughter, Patricia D. Ferry, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Kathleen, Charles, Joseph, Will, Christina and Glenn; and a great granddaughter, Emma Grace. He was the last of his immediate family.
Memorial services will be held in the near future at a time and place to be announced. Interment will be made in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.
