Charles C. "Nick" Housenick, II
Charles C. "Nick" Housenick, II, age 76, of Bloomsburg, an investment advisor, former Ford dealer and avid Philadelphia Phillies fan died at 4:45 a. m. Saturday at his summer home in Eagles Mere from complications of congestive heart failure.
Nick was born in Bloomsburg on October 13, 1937 to the late John C. and Mary (Berwind) Housenick and he spent his entire life there. He was a 1955 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, attended Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and received a BS degree in Business Administration (accounting) from the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1960.
For the past 30 years, he was an account executive for several investment firms and was currently employed by Oppenheimer & Co. at their Bloomsburg office. Prior to joining the investment industry, he served as General Manager and President of the former Housenick Motor Company of Bloomsburg, a firm founded by his grandfather and one of the oldest family-owned Ford dealerships in the United States. During much of his time with Housenick Motor Company, he was vice- president of the Philadelphia District Ford Dealers Association and served two terms on the Ford Dealers Council. He was also an area representative of the Pennsylvania Automotive Association.
Nick had a long history of community service and believed in giving back to the town that has given him so much. He served several terms on the Bloomsburg Town Council, chaired the town's Municipal Authority, and was a former member of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club. He also was a member of the Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce, served with the Columbia Alliance for Economic Growth and the Bloomsburg Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Following graduation from Bloomsburg State Teachers College, he served as an officer of the 814th Ordnance Company, US Army Reserve in Bloomsburg. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Bloomsburg University and was a member of the Nursing Advisory Committee and a Director of the Husky Research Corporation.
Nick spent summers with his family in Eagles Mere, where he served as treasurer of the Eagles Mere Association and was on the Board of Directors of the Eagles Mere Country Club.
He is survived by Nancy (Laubach) Housenick, his wife of 54 years and two daughters: Elizabeth (Housenick) Ward and her husband Mark, Devon and Mary (Housenick) Kalady, and her husband Michael, Exton, as well as five grandchildren: Mary Caroline and Andrew Ward and Kaitlyn, Michael and Peter Kalady. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol (Housenick) Hilderbrandt, as well as his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 11 a. m. in First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
