Charles W. Hummer, Sr., age 86 15 Hummer Road, Danville, died at his home at 8:45 p.. Thursday, May 18, 2017 while under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice.
He was born in Rush Township, Northumberland County, on March 19, 1931 in the same home that he died in. He was a son of the late Ralph W. and Mae (Getty) Hummer. He was a 1949 graduate of Danville High School.
Charles was employed at the former Textron Industries, Inc., Danville for 43 years, retiring in 1994
He was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Riverside. He also belonged to Danville Mahoning Lodge 224, F & AM for over 50 years; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Sunbury; Danville Moose Lodge 1133 for over 50 years and he was past Governor; Life Member of the Southside Fire Co., Riverside; and the National Rife Association.
Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a former Republican Committeeman for Rush Township and a member of the Second Amendment Foundation.
Surving are his wife, the former Joan Hower, with whom he observed a 66th wedding anniversary on November 3, 2016; four sons: Richard Hummer, at home; Randall Lee Hummer, and his wife LuAnn; Charles W. Hummer, Jr., and his wife Patricia; and Jeffrey Scott Hummer, all of Danville; a daughter, Lori Ann, wife of Scott Keppler, Danville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Hummer, and his wife Mary Ellen, Danville.
Memorial funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with his son, Randall Lee Hummer, presiding. The family will receive friends from 10- 11 a. m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Riverside. The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.
