Charles S. Kitchen, age 82, 53 Ezzyk Lane, Berwick, died at 1:34 p. m. Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Orangeville, where he was a patient since March, 2014. He was in failing health for 13 years.
Born in Jerseytown on January 26, 1933, he was a son of the late Charles K. and Lula I. (Robbins) Kitchen. He resided in North Centre Township for the past 16 years and previously lived in Jerseytown for 45 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Millville High School.
Charles was last employed as a millwright, working through the Carpenter and Millworkers Union, out of Harrisburg and Lebanon. Earlier he was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. and US Radium Corp., both of Bloomsburg; Deluxe Homes, Berwick; and the Rishel Furniture Factory, Muncy.
He attended the Buckhorn United Methodist Church, while residing in Jerseytown. He was a life member of the Buckhorn Community Fire Co.; the Millville Rod & Gun Club; Catawissa Post 8306, VFW; and American Legion Post 564, Millville. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Charles enjoyed bowling with the former Magee League, hunting and square dancing, which is how he met his future wife. As a carpenter he helped to build five homes.
He served with the US Army in Korea during the Korean War.
Charles was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teanna Kitchen and eleven siblings: Frances Hummel; Eleanor Martenas; Almeta Woodside; John Kitchen; Earl Kitchen; Jessie Kirchman; Wayde Kitchen; Ada Hartman; Lester Kitchen; Beryl (Vivian) Kirchman; and Carl Kitchen.
Surviving are his wife, the former Edith M. Long, with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 14, 2015; a daughter, Alice C. Kitchen, at home; a son, Kermit C Kitchen, and his companion, Jenifer Sinkavatch, Berwick; two granddaughters: Tiffany Williams, Millville and Shelby, wife of Jacob Hilton, Vallejo, Calif.; two great-granddaughters: Kaitlyn Williams and Hailee Renner; a sister, Mavis Heller, Berwick; a brother, Harold Kitchen, Catawissa; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Nigel Probert, pastor of the Ebenezer Faith Bible Church officiating. Interment in Columbia Hill Cemetery, West Hemlock Township, Montour County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p. m.
