Charles W. Knight, age 84, of Danville, PA died on October 21, 2023 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after suffering a stroke. He was born on the family farm in rural Jonesboro, Indiana on July 5, 1939, a son of the late Thurlow Bennett Knight II and Cora (Marvin) Knight.
After high school, Charles worked at the Paranite Wire & Cable plant in Marion, IN. He married Lois (Shugart) Knight in 1958. Together they had four children; however, Jimmy, their second son, was born prematurely and did not survive. In 1964 they moved from Indiana to acreage south of Greenville, Iowa.
Charles worked at Pixler Electric in Spencer, IA where he learned to rewire small electric motors, among other skills. In 1973, he started working at Eaton Corp. in the maintenance department (employee #037). Not long after his first marriage ended in 1984, he left the area and moved to the east coast where he made a home with his second wife Norma (Jipson) Carlson. Eventually, he grew tired of working for others and took the leap to launch his own business, Absolute Gutter Protection, LLC., which manufactured, marketed, and sold Gutter ProTech products. Charles was also awarded a few US patents (#D470,926 S and #7,104,011 B1) for a rain gutter cover and gutter protection panel. In their free time, he and Norma enjoyed traveling, visiting estate sales, and touring the historical landmarks in that area. They resided in Collingswood, NJ for a few years and lived in Woodbury, NJ for 31 years, before moving to Danville in 2019.
He is survived by three children, Tim (Bonnie) Knight of Spencer, IA, Tom (Jan) Knight of Durant, IA, and Debbie (Mike) Johnson of Lenexa, KS; his brother Jim (Debbie) Knight, of Marion, IN; five stepchildren, Steven Carlson (Yumi Konishi) of Himeji, Japan, Kay Carlson (Mark Anderson) of Portland, OR, Lori Duran of Austin, TX, Jill Carlson (William Calhoun) of Bloomsburg, PA, and Michael Carlson (Luda) of Ames, IA; as well as (14) grandchildren and (5) great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Allen (Jimmy) Knight; his wife, Norma; his sisters Dorothy Bragg, Nora Leota Glover, Sarah (Sally) Bowman, and brothers Robert Knight, and Thurlow Bennett (Button) Knight, III.
Private services will be held by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, PA.
