C. Edward âEdâ Rhoades, Jr., age 65, 465 E. Main St., Catawissa, died in the emergency room of the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, at 10:49 a. m. on Monday , July 30, 2012, following a bicycle accident in Catawissa Twp. earlier in the morning.
Born in Mahoning Township, Montour County on December 9, 1946, he was a son of the late Charles Edward, Sr., and Ellen Mae (Snyder) Rhoades. He resided in Catawissa for 25 years and previously in Danville and Philadelphia.
Ed was a 1964 graduate of Danville High School and received a B. S. degree in elementary education from the former Bloomsburg State College in 1968. He also attended the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.
He was employed as a middle school art teacher in the Southern Area School District for 24 ½ years until retiring in 2011. Earlier he taught in Pottsville and Philadelphia as well as substituting at various schools in this area.
Ed was a talented musician, song writer, art teacher and comic book artist. He was a member of the Local Music Collective in the Susquehanna Valley; the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum and the Friends of the Phantom. He served as editor of the âFriends of the Phantomâ newsletter.
A talented artist, he focused on comic book art and portraiture art. As a musician he performed with various bands over the years as a songwriter and guitarist. He and his wife performed at coffee house and charitable events as "Kim and Ed Rhoadesâ
Ed was a published author and was an expert on comic book art, and was featured in various comics over the years.
He was a former member of the Catawissa Borough Council.
Ed is survived by his wife, the former Kimberly G. Baylor, with whom he celebrated 27 years of marriage on Feb. 16, 2012; two daughters: Heather A., wife of Steven Hanley, Jr., Elkton, Md. and Renee L. Rhoades, and her fiance, Michael Palkendo, Catawissa; a sister, Pamela, wife of Larry Kinn, East Longmeadow, Mass; and an aunt, A. Pat., wife of Richard Stevens, Bloomsburg.
Ed cherished his family, especially his wife Kim and his daughters Heather and Renee.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 12:30 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p. m. Immediately following the service, there will be a gathering to celebrate Edâs life with music and food at the Catawissa Fire Co. starting at 2 p. m.
