Chester G. Rhodes

Chester G. Rhodes, age 90, of Berwick, and formerly of Bloomsburg, died at the Bloomsburg Care & Rehabilitation Center at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Born in Catawissa on March 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Luther W. and Hazel S. (Ernest) Rhodes. He lived in Berwick for the past 17 years and had formerly resided in the Bloomsburg area for many years. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Catawissa High School.

Chester was employed by the former Magee Carpet Company, last working in the auto fab division, before retiring in 1991.

He served with the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273 American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and doing yard work.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Nina E. Snyder, on July 6, 2015; three brothers: Earl Rhodes, Lawrence Rhodes, and Doyle “Sam” Rhodes.

Chester is survived by two daughters: Kay, wife of Thomas Nazarchyk, and Jane Miller, both of Catawissa; four grandchildren: Vicki Yackiel, Cody Miller, Megan Costik, and Paul Nazarchyk; six great-grandchildren: April Miller, Ryan Costik, Jake Costik, Collin Costik, Rowan Nazarchyk, and Cyrus Nazarchyk; brother, Paul Rhodes, and his wife Rosemary, of Berwick; two sisters: Thelma, wife of Morton Fegley, of Carlisle, and Gloria Holderman, of Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

At Chester’s request there will be no funeral services or viewing.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
