Chris Richard Broadt

Chris Richard Broadt, age 61, of Selinsgrove and formerly of Bloomsburg, died at 4:24 a. m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at the home of his daughter, Amber Shaffer in Amelia Court House, Va. where he was staying during his illness.

Born on December 20, 1956 in Bloomsburg, he was the son of Richard E. and A. Pearl (Spudes) Broadt of Selinsgrove. His early life was spent in Bloomsburg where he was a 1974 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. He went on to graduate from the Beaver County Community College, Beaver, PA.

Chris was last employed by Dynamic Aviation, Inc., Harrisonburg, Va. as an aviation mechanic.

He was an American history buff and did historical research. His hobby was building Revolutionary War style and Civil War style muzzle loaders and rifles. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). A skilled woodworker, he built shaker style furniture.

Chris had a life long interest in Aviation, holding a Commercial Pilot's License and as an Aircraft Mechanic held a Air-frame and Power Plant Certificate as well as, an Inspection Authorization Rating for which only a limited number of people maintained in the world.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Richard Broadt in 2004.

Surviving in addition to his parents in Selinsgrove, are two daughters: Rachel Broadt and Amber, wife of Terry Lin Shaffer, all of Amelia Court House; a step-daughter, Amanda Grady, wife of John “Jack” Higgins, Milton; two granddaughters: Cadence Brooke Shaffer and Carleigh Brielle Shaffer; two sisters: Alea, wife of Kenneth Wright, Ervington, Kentucky  and Cindy, wife of Steven Trapane, Milton; and the love of his life, Marcella Kay (Black Bear) Harjo, Harrisonburg, Va. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that were considered to be family from all over the world.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at 4 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Luther J. Martell, pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg officiating. Viewing from 3-4 p. m.
