Christine Rose Shaffer, age 61, of 1237 Bloom Road, Danville, a lover of nature, went to walk in Heavenâs gardens on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, the day of salvation and a full moon. After a courageous fight, she sadly lost her battle with cancer.
She was born in Danville on September 1, 1953, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Naomi R. (Steffen) DePaolo. She was the third of four children, and was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Joe DePaolo.
Chris attended the Danville public schools, and graduated from the Columbia-Montour Vocational Technical School in 1971.
She created a successful business, âThe Girls Landscapingâ, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also a member of the Catawissa Garden Club.
Chris was blessed with many friends, a loving family, and her beloved pets. She loved the outdoors and experiencing the wonders of nature. Chris decided it was time to push up the daisies instead of pulling the weeds around them.
In addition to gardening, she had many other hobbies: kayaking, fishing, antiquing and attending yard sales. She loved feeding her crows, and was a collector of shiny things.
She was a child of a great generation, and loved all music, especially classic rock. She loved the Beatles, Queen, Harry Nilsson and more; and had an extensive music collection.
Chris was the most loving wife, mother and Mimi. She was a strong-willed, opinionated, caring, compassionate, bold, brave, vibrant and fun-loving person with a big heart. She was a great person to be around and work with, and will be deeply missed. She was very blessed to have lived her life the way she wanted, and we are even more blessed to have had her in our lives.
Chris is survived by her best friend and husband, Stephen James Shaffer, whom she married on July 31, 1976; and her loving sons: Kenneth Shawn Shaffer, and his wife Heather Renee, Benton and Jeffery Peter Shaffer, and his wife Erin Lynn, Catawissa; four grandchildren: Shyanne Leah Shaffer, Nichole Renee Shaffer, Joseph Rowan Shaffer and Rose Emilia Shaffer; and two sisters: Roxanna Louise, wife of Steven Hummer, Danville; and Melanie Jane, wife of Thomas Greis, Pottsville.
At Chrisâ request, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with Henry N. Shaffer, Jr., of the Community of Christ Church, Bloomsburg, officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Following the service, there will be a covered dish dinner in the East End Fire Company banquet hall, Bloom Road, Danville. Please bring your favorite dish, as well as memories and photos to share.
