Clair C. Hock, age 93, of Bloomsburg died Tuesday evening, November 14, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville where he was a patient since Friday.
Born in Mt. Pleasant Township on the former Columbia County farm on February 24, 1930, he was a son of the late George M. and Hazel (Thomas) Hock. He was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1948 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Clair founded Clair C. Hock, Inc., a road construction business and operated it for 40 years. He was also a co-owner of Motor World auto dealership in Wilkes-Barre for 12 years.
He served as a director of the former First Eastern Bank, a director of the former Bloomsburg Hospital and served as a Bloomsburg School Director. He was a life member of Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.
Clair was a member of the First English Baptist Church and also a trustee of the church. His hobby for many years was boating.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Dailey on June 10, 2021, by five brothers: Eugene, Horace, LaRue, Harry and Ray Hock and by two sisters: Leona Yohey and Marguerite Shultz.
Clair is survived by his wife, the former Doris Evans, with whom he observed their 29th wedding anniversary on June 28, 2023; three children: Clair C., Jr. “Ted” and his wife Bonita of Punta Gorda, Fla.; Julie, wife of Charles Williams, Bloomsburg; John Hock and his wife Joanne of Timonium, MD. Doris’s children: Susan, wife of Matthew Laidacker, Bloomsburg; Tracy, wife of Doug Conn, Lincoln University; Wendy Jansen and her wife Lisa Gress of Oceanside, New York and Steven Puterbaugh and his wife Fe of Palmyra; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his former wife, Nancy S. Hock, of Danville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. in the First English Baptist Church, 700 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. L. Lee Barnhardt officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10-11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers. Friends may remember Clair with a contribution to either the Bloomsburg Public Library, 225 Market St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815 or to Geisinger Hospice, 74 Schoolhouse Road, Suite 104, Danville, PA 17821.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
