CLAIR E. SITLER
Clair E. Sitler, age 85, 3 Avon Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 8:39 p. m. Wednesday, November 23, 3011 at the Bloomsburg Hospital where he was admitted earlier in the day. He was in failing health for several years.
Born in Bloomsburg on August 25, 1926, he was a son of the late John Sitler and the late Martha M. (Hagenbuch) Sitler Lomasney.
A 1944 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, he also attended the Williamsport School of Technology.
Clair was employed by the former Bell Telephone Co., of Pennsylvania and last by Verizon Telephone Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He later was employed part-time by the former Time Market chain for several years.
He attended the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg and was a member of Washington Lodge #265, F & AM and also of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 for many years.
Clair served with the US Navy during World War II.
He was an avid golfer and sports fan and also enjoyed hunting.
Clair was preceded in death by his only child, Sharon Lynn Sitler on April 13, 1975, a brother Carl Sitler who died as an infant and by a sister, Phyllis M. Howard Marek on March 8, 2009.
Surviving are his wife, the former C. Jean Strohecker, with whom he celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on March 25, 2011; a niece and a nephew.
Friends and neighbors are invited to attend graveside services on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in Creveling Cemetery, Old Berwick Road, Almedia, with the Rev. Jay E. Jones, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no viewing.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, Pa 17701.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
