CLAIRE S. SHEPPERSON
Claire S. Shepperson, age 95, Maria Joseph Manor, Danville and formerly of East Second St., Bloomsburg, died at 4:03 a. m. Sunday, October 17, 2010, her 95th birthday, at the Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville, where she was a patient for two months.
Born on October 17, 1915 in Frackville, she was a daughter of the late George and Carina (Kelly) Smith. She was the third of 17 children.
Claire was a 1933 graduate of Frackville High School and went on to the former Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1937. She resided in Riverside before moving to Bloomsburg in 1949.
She was employed as a nurse by Geisinger Medical Center for many years and was a night supervisor of nurses when she retired in 1981.
Claire was a member of St. Paulâs Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg and the Embroiders Guild. Outside of work, she enjoyed sewing, embroidering and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Shepperson, Jr. on May 8, 1985, and by 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a son, Charles E. âNedâ Shepperson, III, and his wife Dottie, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Gail DâIsidoro, Malvern; four grandchildren: Chris Shepperson, and his wife Kimberly, Falls Church, Va.; Amy, wife of Bryan Dunlevy, Downingtown; Jaime, wife of Michael Pizzi, Malvern; Ann, wife of Robert Jones, Fairfax, Va.; and nine great-grandchildren: Tyler Jones, Jacob Dunlevy, Kelly Shepperson, Julianna Pizzi, Erin Jones, Grace Dunlevy, Lauren Pizzi, Jackson Dunlevy, and new-born Nico Pizzi. She is also survived by three sisters: Joan McNamara, Jeffersonville; Virginia Grady, Venice, Fla.; Barbara, wife of Richard Cooney, Mechanicsburg; and a brother, Gerald Smith, and his wife Marie, Harrisburg. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at 11 a. m. in St. Paulâs Episcopal Church , East Main & Iron Streets, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Cannon Marjorie A. Menaul officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
