CLAY D. SMITH
Clay D. Smith, age 82, of Moosic and formerly of 334 E. First Street, Bloomsburg, died at 1:10 p. m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Hospital, Plains Township, Luzerne County, where he was a patient for one month. He was in failing health for six months.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 12, 1928, he was a son of the late Oliver and Ruth (Crawford) Smith. He graduated from High School in St. Louis and also from the Bailey Technical School, St. Louis in 1953.
Clay resided in Moosic for the past four years and in Bloomsburg for over 50 years prior to that. He was an electronics technichian and did business as Clay Smith T. V. repair Service in Bloomsburg for many years until retiring in 1994.
He served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and achived the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Clay was a member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 for over 25 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles and Sudoku puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Janet E. Moore, on June 23, 2010; by a son, Clay A. Smith on September 28, 1997 and by a brother, Ardith Smith.
Surviving are four daughters: Nina W., wife of Frederick Keefer, Forty Fort; Nanci J., wife of Donald Flynn, Dunmore; Jennifer Smith, Dunmore; Stephanie, wife of Timothy Singley, Cornelius, North Carolina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Jewel Kern, Wissconsin and Judith Smith. St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Interment with full military honors by the combined VFW group will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10-11 a. m.
