Creveling A. “Crev” Merrell, age 88, of Jerseytown Road, Danville, died at 11:10 p. m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Vintage Knolls in Danville where he resided for three years.
Born in Danville on August 17, 1930, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Emma E. (Girton) Merrell. He was a lifelong resident of the Danville area and a 1947 graduate of Danville High School.
Crev was the owner of Merrell’s Nursery which he started and operated at his home for 60 years.
He was an active member of the Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, where he served on the Consistory, was a deacon and elder. He also participated in the annual re-enactment of the Lord’s Last Supper for many years.
Crev was a Korean War Veteran serving with the U. S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He was a member of American Legion Post 40, Danville.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and was an avid Danville football fan. He and his wife were members of the former Dan-Jo Wheelers Square Dance Club. He started a football scholarship at Danville High School in honor of a former coach, Ken Bills.
Crev was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Alma D. “Amy” Folmer, on May 21, 2012; by a son, Timothy Mark Merrell; by a daughter, Sandra Jean Merrell; by a grandson, Nicholas Hamilton; by two brothers, David Merrell and Miles Merrell, and by a sister, Bertha Merrell.
Surviving are a son, Daniel A. Merrell, and his wife Patricia, Danville; three daughters: Sharon, wife of Charles F. Hamilton, Alburtis; Lorie M., wife of Michael Cero, Washingtonville; Barbara J., wife of Wesley Szoke, Danville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in Shiloh United Church of Christ, 512 Bloom Street, Danville, with his pastor, Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 40 honor guard. A light luncheon will follow the burial at Shiloh Church. Viewing from 10- 11 a. m.
