Curtis V. Kahl

Curtis V. Kahl, age 91, 6925 Hillside Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 11:05 a. m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his home after being in failing health since March.

Born on March 3, 1920 in Newmanstown, Lebanon County, he was a son of the late Curtis J. and Lillie M. (Troutman) Kahl. He resided in the Bloomsburg area since 1948.

He was a graduate of the former Newmanstown High School in 1938.

Curt served with the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II.  He served in the South Pacific Theatre as a turret gunner with the 345th Bomber Group, 501st Squadron, serving from April, 1942 to October, 1945.

Following his military service, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Hershey,  serving with the Pennsylvania State Police from 1946 until retiring in August, 1975. He served in Hazleton and Philadelphia, spending most of his career at the Bloomsburg Barracks. He was the Sergeant in charge of the Bloomsburg Barracks when he retired.

He was a member of Washington Lodge 265, F. & A.M. and Caldwell Consistory, both of Bloomsburg and the Irem Temple Shrine, Dallas.

Curt served on the board of the Columbia County Unit of the American Cancer Society for a number of years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean E. Harris, with whom he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 10, 2011; a sister, Lois M., wife of David Sheetz, Richland, Lebanon County; a niece, Patrice, wife of Dale Brightbill and a nephew, Rick Troutman, both of Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held on Wed. at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Charles W. Dyer, a family friend, officiating. Interment with full honors by the Pennsylvania State Police Honor Guard and the combined VFW group will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 p. m.
