D. Gretcha "Gret" Betz, age 80, 12 Laidacker Road, Milton, died at 6:35 p. m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville, where she was a guest since January, 2014.
Born in Hickory, North Carolina on June 18, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William and Sara F. (Nichols) Boatwright. Her step father was the late Earl A. Craig, Jr. She resided in Limestone Township, Montour County for the past 20 years and previously lived in Watsontown and Bloomsburg prior to that.
Gret was a 1953 graduate of the former North-Mont High School, Turbotville. She was employed by Danville State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1989 and was an occupational therapy assistant when she retired.
She attended the White Hall Baptist Church.
Gret was an excellent cook and baker and took great interest in her family and caring for them.
She was preceded in death by her companion of 26 years, Franklin P. Shuman, on May 13, 1993 and by two brothers: William H. Boatwright and Richard L. Boatwright.
Gret is survived by her daughter Crystal, wife of Darrin Turner, Tigard, Ore.; a granddaughter, Candice, wife of Jeffrey Henley, who was raised by her and resided with her; two grandsons: Taylor Turner and Corey Long, both of Tigard, Ore.; two great grandsons: Caiden Henley and Owen Henley; a sister, Nina, wife of Dale V. Seidel, Milton; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Boatwright, Milton and Frances Boatwright, Punta Gorda, Fla; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with the Rev. Erwin Roux, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Turbotville, officiating. Interment will be made in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Activities Fund of Nazareth Memory Center at Emmanuel Center for Nursing, 600 Schoolhouse Road, Danville, PA 17821.
