D. Richard “Dick” Sands, age 95, of Crestwood Drive Bloomsburg died Sunday morning July14, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville where he was a patient.

Born in Orangeville on July 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Doyle K. and Gertrude E. (Boyer) Sands. He was a 1945 graduate of the former Orangeville High School and a 1946 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. He resided in Crestwood since 1956.

Dick served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War for a total of 21 years and 20 years in the Marine Corps Reserve.

He owned Overhead Door Company in Berwick from 1977 to 1988 when he retired. Prior to that he worked for the former Strausser Construction Company in Berwick

Dick was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. He was an avid Philadelphia “Phillies” fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years the former M. Patricia Park on August 3, 2017; two sisters, Jean Freas and Joanne Nutaitis.

Dick is survived by four children: Richard J. Sands and his wife Carolyn of Selinsgrove; Mary Suzanne wife of Brent Seely of Bloomsburg; Joseph P. Sands and his wife Lorie of Bloomsburg; Michael J. Sands and his wife Christine of Monroe, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister Sarah Jane “Salty” Ferguson of Orangeville and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 19, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street Bloomsburg with his Pastor, Rev. Richard J. Mowery officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery Espy.
