Dale W. Engelman, age 83, 100 Hill Road, Millville, died at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Grandview Health Homes, Danville, where he had been a guest much of the time since November, 2015.
Born in Noxen, Wyoming County, on February 4, 1933, he was a son of the late William and Ethel (Kresge) Engelman. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Noxen High School and a 1957 graduate of Penn State University, Lehman Campus, with an associate degree in engineering. He served with the US Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.
Dale was employed by the Ingersoll-Rand, Co., Athens from 1957 to 1974. In 1974 he became the administrator of the former Boone Nursing Home, Eyers Grove and in 1976 he purchased it and operated it until 1987, when he retired. He later was employed by the Press Enterprise newspaper, as a courier, for several years, before retiring again.
He resided in the Millville area since 1976.
Dale was a life member of Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, hunting and fishing.
Dale was preceded in death by three sisters: Rose Rifenbery, Sharon Brower, Barbara Engelman and a brother, Donald Engelman.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen C. Jimison, with whom he celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary on October 9, 2015; three sons: Scott D. Engelman, Millville; Neil R. Engelman, and his wife Janice, Berwick; Clark E. Engelman, Millville; a daughter, Marla C. Hahn, and her fiance', Barry J. Davis, Millville; two granddaughters: Tegan Hahn and Piper Hahn; and four siblings: Judy Boone, Millville; Carol, wife of Sterlyn May, Sweet Valley; Barry Engelman, Harveys Lake; Sheila, wife of William Hamersky, Millville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Robert Strozyk, pastor of the Mill-Green United Methodist Church officiating. Millitary honors will be performed by the combined VFW and Millville American Legion group.
