Daniel Ansbach, Jr.
Daniel Ansbach, Jr., aged 86, 133 Willow Drive, Berwick, died at his home at 8 a. m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, after having been in failing health since November.
Born in Hazleton on June 27, 1926, he was a son of the late Daniel J. and Lillian Kathryn (Slusser) Ansbach. He resided in Berwick since 1966.
Dan served with the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1946 and with the U. S. Air Force from 1946 until he retired in 1965 after 20 years of service in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam era. He received the Air Force Commendation medal; Good Conduct medal; and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal.
Following his military service, he was employed by Wise Foods, Inc., Berwick, retiring in 1988.
He attended the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mountain Grove.
Dan was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion and the Susquehanna Valley Veterans of World War II. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and watching the Philadelphia Phillies.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert H. Ansbach on Feb. 14, 1934 and Nevin C. Ansbach, who died in 1944 while serving in World War II.
Dan and his wife, the former Joyce M. Rupert, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on October 15, 2012. Also surviving are a son, Daniel Ansbach, III, Las Cruces, New Mexico; two grandchildren; and two sisters: Janet M. Kahley, Rock Glen and Marilyn F. Brown, Berwick. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church, 6405 Fourth St., Lime Ridge, with his pastor, Rev. Terry Brosius officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with full military honors by the combined VFW group.
