Daniel W. Long
Daniel W. Long, age 71, 34 Perry Ave., Bloomsburg, died at 6:07 p. m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Geisinger Medical Centrer, Danville, where he was a patient for two weeks. He was in failing health for three years.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 20, 1940, he was a son of the late Carl J. and Ethel (Belles) Long. He attended the Benton public schools and resided in the Bloomsburg area much of his lifetime.
Dan was employed as a construction worker much of his life and also owned the former Zephyr Diner, Berwick, for five years in the late 1980's and early 1990's. He was last self employed as a handyman.
He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed spending time on the front porch with his dog, Holly.
Dan was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry Long; Zender "Tex" Long; and Julius "Brick" Long.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jane L. Appleman, with whom he celebrated his 32nd wedding anniversary on August 2, 2012; a step-son, Gregg A Poust, and his wife Kim, Orangeville; two grandchildren: Doug Poust, serving with the US Navy at Norfolk, Va. and Darlene Poust, Orangeville. Also surviving are five brothers: William Long, and his wife Betty, Bloomsburg; Leo Long, and his wife Gail, Berwick; Harold Long, and his wife Ally, Bloomsburg; Clark Long, and his wife Linda Bloomsburg; Paul Long, and his wife Sandra, Stillwater; and three sisters: Beverly Hogan, Texas; Helen Johns, Catawissa; and Joyce, wife of Gregory Sherman, Orangeville. There are also many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wed. at 11 a. m. in New Rosemont Cemetery, Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy). There will be no viewing.
The family will provide flowers. Friends may remember Dan with a donation to the American Diabetes Assn., 65 E. Elizabeth Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
