Darla J Hess, age 69, Bloomsburg, died peacefully at her home Tuesday February 18th. 2025 after a brief illness.
Born 3rd of seven children October 6, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Richard W Hess and Cecelia A (Haladay) Hess. She spent her early life working on the family farm. She moved to San Diego, CA in 1977 after the passing of our mother where she worked for Rohr Industries an aerospace mfg. company. She later moved to Houston TX where she earned a degree in Anthropology but earned a secondary degree in Occupational Therapy, which was her lifelong career for over 30 years.
She had a heart of gold and would go up and beyond to help others as well as some of her patients. For example: visiting a woman that lived a good distance to take to her Dr appts. because no family member was available to help. Visiting with patients in some of the Nursing Homes she worked at to play cards and various games with. Helping with a longtime friend when he went through cancer several times and several others as they were in their last days. She loved her cats and enjoyed watching and taking care of the birds, especially hummingbirds. She loved gardening and preserving fruits and vegetables, going to the beach and hiking. Darla travelled extensively throughout the US and to Europe as well.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Cynthia Hess that passed away May 2007 and her nephew Jarrad Mensch 2020, whom she was very close to. Surviving are five siblings: Richard W Hess, and his wife Barbara, Deborah J., wife of Don Tappe . Donna K. , wife of Guy Mensch 3rd, of Bloomsburg, Douglas R Hess of North Powder , OR. Pamela M Hess-Rhinard, wife of David V Rhinard, Orangeville. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was a very spiritual woman and an awesome sister, aunt and friend.
