Darvin A. Longenberger, age 82, 752 Mainville Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 6:08 p. m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at his home after being seriously ill for two months.
Born on April 19, 1927 in Main Township, he was a son of the late Myron L. and Eva M. (LeVan) Longenberger. He spent his entire life in Main Township and attended the Mainville public school.
Darvin served as a policeman in Main Township for 22 years, retiring in 1992. He was also employed as a fabricator by Kawneer Corp., Bloomsburg from shortly after the plant opened until he retired in 1989 after more than 25 years employment.
He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Mainville and the Main Township Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Darvin served with the US Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Keller, with whom he celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary on August 20, 2009; a son, Charles M. Longenberger, Millsboro, Del.; two daughters: Charlotte, wife of Robert Thomas, Mainville and Marqueen, wife of Dale Davenport, Catawissa; six grandchildren: Tracy Sudol, Sheri Eley, Angela Temple, Joseph Thomas, Jessie Davenport, Andraya Olexa; eight great-grandchildren: Colten Temple, Virgil Sudol, Lily Sudol, Hunter Thomas, Taylor Thomas, Paige Davenport, Jacob Davenport and Lara Eley; three sisters: Marie, wife of Harry Terwilliger, Espy; Delores Hidlay, Espy; and M. Jean, wife of James Bankes, Mainville.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Stanley L. Bower officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with military honors by the combined VFW group.
