A Man For All Seasons

David O. Fairley, age 84, 5063 State Rte. 487, Benton, sailed into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior on May 15, 2016, while he was a guest at Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville.

Born in Bloomsburg on June 29, 1931, he was the son of Oscar and Josephine (Moon) Fairley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Fairley and his sister, Nancy Hinds.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kay (Wagner) Fairley; his children: CarolAnn Jellison and Daniel Fairley and wife Marilyn; grandson Evan Jellison; sister-in-law Melonie Wagner; and nieces Sarah Devita, Laurie McMahon, Michelle Crawford, Robbie Sue Myers and nephew Michael Hinds.

David graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1948-1952, received his electrical engineering degree from Bucknell University and his masters of engineering from the University of Southern California. He was an engineer for several companies throughout his professional career.

His hobbies included fly fishing and hunting in high school; and later in life sailing, scuba diving, skiing, camping and playing the harmonica.

He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Benton.

David loved life, and he lived it with gusto!! He was a very positive, faith-filled person who always saw the glass as half full, not half empty.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at The Lodge at Raven Creek, 314 Saint Gabriel’s Road, Benton, with his pastor, Paul Moseley officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10-11 a.m. Military services will be performed by the combined VFW group.
