David Leslie Stout, age 81, of Montour Twp., Bloomsburg, died at his home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 under the care of Commonwealth Home Health & Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on June 23, 1939 in Dorrance Twp., Luzerne County, to the late Clara Jean (Stout) Baron. He was a 1957 graduate of Newport Township High School. He graduated from Bloomsburg State College with a Bachelor’s in Education in 1961.
He taught for one semester at Bloomsburg High School and then moved his family to Bucks County, where he taught senior physics classes for 9 years at Lower Moreland school district. He received his Master’s degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute during the summers while teaching. He was assistant high school wrestling and football coach during this time. He continued his perpetual studies with additional studies at Temple University.
A career in educational textbook sales led to his employment with Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, where he was promoted to Eastern Vice President. Dave retired in 2006 and spent many years learning and enjoying the search and fine game of antiques and collectibles. He joined Lewisburg Antique and Silver Moon as a coop dealer for many years. His love of antiques led to another level of personal attainment of knowledge through reading and purchasing volumes of information.
He was a former Jaycees member and a current member of the Washington Lodge #264 F&AM and the Caldwell Consistory, both of Bloomsburg.
David met his wife, the former Dolores Gross, the first day of college. They married June 10, 1960 and would have celebrated their union of 61 years next month.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Jeffrey David Stout and Janeen Dawn Goodrich; six grandchildren: Joshua David Stout, Joelee Dawn Stout, Jocelyn Dee Stout, Jessika Dolores Stout, Justin Michael Goodrich, and Arianna Dawn Goodrich; and four great-grandchildren: Ava Diehl, Elsie Goodrich, Adeline Stout and Charley Purcell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Ronald S. French, associate pastor of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m.
