David A. Superdock, Ph.D., age 92, formerly of Bloomsburg passed away at the United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Born in Freeland on May 26, 1932, he was a son of the late Andrew and Helen (Kanuck) Superdock. He resided in Bloomsburg from 1960 until moving to Lancaster County in 2019.

David was a graduate of the former Foster Township High School in 1950, the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1954 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Penn State University.

He taught at Freeland High School for four years before joining the faculty at Bloomsburg State College where he taught and served as Chairman of the Physics Department before retiring in 1985 after nearly 26 years employment. While at the university, he helped established the physics department, established engineering physics, and introduced advanced curriculum such electrodynamics, electricity and magnetism, mechanics, optics, quantum physics, and thermodynamics. He helped to establish one of the first health physics majors in the country. He taught nuclear energy seminars to teachers and participated in research measuring environmental background radiation with a grant from Pennsylvania Power and Light. He made regional news after detecting radioactive fallout in Bloomsburg after the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the Soviet Union in 1986.

He was a longtime member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Bloomsburg. He also belonged to the former Columbia Montour Torch Club and the North Montour Sportsmans’s Association. He enjoyed tennis, swimming, sailing, hunting, and skiing.

David faithfully served his country as a member of the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division from 1955 to 1957.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elaine L. Ferko, on January 18, 2022.

Surviving are four children: Linda M., wife of Johnnie Netrow of Tomball, Texas, David T. Superdock, M.D. and his wife Beth of Newmanstown, Keith R. Superdock, M.D. and his wife Jennifer of Piedmont, South Carolina, Tracy L., wife of Sean Nicol of Vero Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Followed by interment in New Rosemont Cemetery where military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army and the combined VFW and American Legion Honor Guard.
