Dawn G. Letterman
Dawn G. Letterman, age 82, 2229 Third Street, Bloomsburg (Espy), went home to heaven to be with her family on June 10, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for three days.
Mom was born in Bloomsburg on February 19, 1933, the third child of the late Harry J. and Mabel E. (Sellard) Rhone. She resided in Bloomsburg her entire life and was a 1951 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
She was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg.
She was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) last working at the former Loyalton of Bloomsburg and prior to that at the former Bloomsburg Health Care Center, as well as doing private duty nursing.
Mom married the love of her life, Carl M. Letterman, on December 1, 1952 and they shared seven and a half years of happiness until God called him home on August 19, 1960. Mom never dated after losing dad and often stated "you only find one good man in a lifetime.
Mom was dedicated to her children, Steve and Kathy. She unselfishly took care of Steve, who was born with a birth defect, until his passing on October 8, 1985. Mom kept a neat and tidy home and made the best gummy chocolate chip cookies.
In addition to her husband and son, Dawn was preceded in death by two brothers: Harry J. Rhone and Wilbur R. Rhone.
Dawn is survived by a daughter, Kathy S. Leighow, Mt. Carmel; a granddaughter, Kristen R., wife of Peter D. Shumate, Danville, who she thought of as a grandson, and was happy that Kristen found a good man. Also surviving are two great grandchildren: Dade G. Ballard, with whom she shared a special bond, and Jaelynn Dawn Shumate, who she affectionately called "sweet pea". Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye and she loved them dearly. Also surviving is her grandson's dog, Ramsey - "The Poodle", who she spoiled very much. She always made sure that she had Ramsey's favorite treat, cheese. Ramsey was Nanny's lap buddy and loved to take naps on her lap. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
At the request of our mom, nana and nanny, there will be no funeral services. Private interment was made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
Since Dawn was a great lover of animals, especially poodles, memorial contributions may be sent to the Animal Resource Center, 301-A Boone Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
