Derek W. Beers, age 93, of Eister Loop, Danville, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday afternoon February 20, 2025.
Born in Packer Township, Carbon County, on August 30, 1931, he was the only child of the late Adam W. and Helen (Warg) Beers. He was a 1949 graduate of Weatherly High School and resided in the Danville area since 1969. He formerly lived in Hudsondale, Carbon County.
Derek was employed by PPL Electric Co. for 27 years as a plant equipment operator, retiring in 1993.
He was a founding member of the Valley Township Fire Co. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling, especially cruising with his wife. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
Derek proudly served his country by serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
His childhood nicknames were “Sweetie” and “Roundy.” As an adult, he was called “Chicken Hips” and “Dude.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth J. “Betty” Walters, on January 3, 2015.
Surviving is his daughter, Nancy A., wife of Thomas J. Fryc, of Coraopolis, son, John D. Beers, and his wife Richelle, of Bloomsburg, granddaughter, Chelsea R., wife of Brian Burke, of McMurray.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 9-10 a.m in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Rd., Danville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. with hospice chaplain Robert Barner, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Carbon County.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Victory, 58 Camp Victory Rd., Millville, PA 17846.
