Donald A. Brewer, age 87, formerly of Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg, died at 7:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Millville Health Care Center, where he was a resident for the last three months. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Orangeville on April 25, 1923, he was a son of the late Leon S. and M. Mae (Keller) Brewer. Donald resided in the Bloomsburg area all his life. He graduated from the former Orangeville Vocational High School in 1941, and in September of that year he received his certification in "Introductory Engineering" from Penn State College.
Donald was employed at the former Bell Telephone Company in Bloomsburg and Harrisburg for over 40 years, starting out as a lineman and retiring as an engineer in 1984.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg; and a lifetime member of the Bloomsburg Fair Association. Other memberships include the Susquehanna Valley Postcard Club and the Oriental Lodge #460 F&AM, Orangeville.
Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving our country during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ellamae Welsh, with whom he would have celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on Feb. 25, 2011; four children: James C. Brewer, wife Mary, Denver, Pa.; Judith A., wife of Derl Reichard, Danville; Janet E., wife of Jack Mikesell, Dayton, Ohio; and Jean L. Schulz, Bloomsburg; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five siblings: twin-brother Doyle Brewer, wife Alma, Bloomsburg; Doris Smith, Williamsport; David âKellyâ Brewer, wife Ruth, Lightstreet; Dawn, wife of Jack Johnson, Bloomsburg; and Diane Ent, Orangeville.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with associate pastor, Rev. Jane L. OâBorski, officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville, with military honors by the combined VFW group. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Thursday.
