Donald R. Carl, age 76, 251 E. Ninth Street, Bloomsburg, died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where he had been a guest for four months.
Born in Locust Twp., Columbia County on June 17, 1938, he was a son of the late Alvah and Edna Mae (Beltz) Carl. A graduate of the former Locust Twp. High School, he had resided in Bloomsburg since 1994, and previously lived in Numidia.
Donald was last employed by the Alumax, Corp., Bloomsburg where he worked from 1981 until retiring in 2002. Earlier he was employed at the former US Radium plant in Almedia and prior to that he drove trucks for several freight companies.
He served with the U.S. Army from 1958-1961, serving with the signal corps in Ethiopia.
Donald was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Valley Chemical Fire Co., both of Numidia and the Catawissa American Legion Post 541. He enjoyed playing guitar and country music, and played with several bands over the years, including the Carl Family Band.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon G. Carl and Henry E. Carl.
Surviving are three sons: Douglas G. Carl, companion Leigh Geary, Numidia; Dale E. Carl, wife Brenda and Derek S. Carl, wife Melissa, all of Catawissa; seven grandchildren; and four siblings: Rosemary, wife of Tom Remaley, Leesburg, Fla.; Lillian, wife of Jack Hagemeyer, Fernville; Alvah W. Carl, wife Janet, Danville and Olivia E., wife of Jim Hornberger, Leesburg, Fla.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia.
