Donald L. Coleman, Sr., age 72, 235 Crabapple Lane, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 7:25 p. m. Tuesday, June 12, 2017, after a brief illness.
Born in Bloomsburg on August 8, 1944, he was a son of the late Luther D. and Charlotte M. (Bisset) Coleman. He spent his entire life in Scott Township where he was a member of the last graduating class at the former Scott Township High School in 1962.
Don was employed by Scott Township for 39 years on the road crew and was supervisor of the crew when he retired on August 8, 2009. He also served as a Scott Township Supervisor from 2007 to the present. He also was employed part time by Sokol Construction for 17years and also drove cars at the Bloomsburg Auto Auction for James Vance.
He was a member of the Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia. A life member of the Espy Fire Co., he also belonged to Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Don served on the Youth Aid Panel of Columbia County and the Advisory Board of the North Central Security Center, Danville. In 1972 he ran the first mosquito program in Columbia County. Following retirement he and his wife took a cruise and land tour to Alaska with friends.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army on Aug. 6, 1962 and was discharged on Aug. 5, 1965 after serving at various bases during the Vietnam War.
His hobbies were hunting and riding his motorcycle. His favorite pastime was spent watching his grandson not only play baseball, but attending practice sessions as well.
Don is survived by his wife, the former Lou Ann Wilson, with whom he observed his 49th wedding anniversary on Feb. 24, 2017; a son, Donald L. Coleman, Jr., and his wife Kim; his grandson, Walker E. Coleman; four brothers: Ronald C. Coleman; Wallace J. Coleman, and his wife Karen; Gene L. Coleman, and his wife Shelby; Luther D. Coleman, Jr., and his wife Mary, all of Bloomsburg. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 noon in the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St., Bloomsburg (Almedia) with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park with military honors by the combined veterans group. Viewing will be at the Church from 9 a. m. to 12 noon Thursday.
